Ada County Courthouse preparing to reopen to general public

Gov. Little has a 4 phase plan to loosen the stay at home order, and that impacts local courts like Ada County.

Courts are included in phase one of the plan, which begins on Friday May 1. The Ada County Courthouse has been at reduced operations since March, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Administrative District Judge Melissa Moody says there are guidelines people should follow during the process of reopening.

“Some of the important key things to know are that they have to be wearing facemasks, they cannot come into the courthouse if they’re symptomatic," Moody said. "There’s also the preference that all hearing work remotely either by phone or laptop.”

Little's phase one plan, which also includes places of worship and daycares, begins on Friday May 1.

Since the court is only reviewing the most urgent cases at the moment, Moody says they a preparing for the flood of cases coming up the best they can.

“It’s hard to prepare for a flood isn’t it? We are in communication with public defenders and prosecutors," Moody said. "We are working Saturdays in the summer to clear out the backlog. We are really paying attention to that.”
