The Fairmont Kea Lani will host its 32nd annual tree lighting ceremony from 5 to 7 p.m. today, the resort announced.
The free event is open to the community and will take place in the Palm Court, just outside of Ko Restaurant. There will be live entertainment from Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning group The ‘Iliahi Serenaders, featuring Maui natives Kamalei Kawa’a, Kamaehu Kawa’a and Jon Ako, as well as performances by Merrie Monarch award-winning Halau Kekuaokala’au’ala’iliahi. Cookies and hot chocolate will be provided, and other food and beverages will be available for purchase. Free self parking is available at the hotel, with overflow parking at Mulligans on the Blue.
The event marks the start of the resort’s 10th annual Tree of Hope Campaign. From now until Jan. 2, the hotel’s Tree of Hope will take donations to benefit the Maui Food Bank’s Aloha Backpack Buddies Program, which provides students with meals for the weekend. The funds raised will help provide more than 140,000 meals to those in need, according to a resort news release.
The campaign kicked off this year with a donation of over $21,000 from the resort’s in-house group, the Consumer Attorneys of California.
